10 whimsical spring ritual ideas
Because spring deserves more than just a wardrobe change
Hello friends,
Before I start today’s topic, a challenge update feels mandatory.
We are on day 3 of our anti-rot challenge. How is everyone doing?
I feel like this was a much needed challenge, at least for me. As you know, this year is my anti-rot year, but lately my focus has been a little off, and I was really struggling with single-tasking. So these 3 days felt like a reset for me. I must add though, I still listen to music in the background most of the time and I don’t think that counts as breaking a rule. In this challenge, it’s okay to bend the rules a little if it makes them easier to follow.
I love that we are doing this together, and the best part of doing this as a community is inspiring one another. There is something so powerful about a group of people all trying to grow at the same time. We are all figuring this out together, so feel free to share your experiences in the chat. I am truly grateful that you are here.
If you are only hearing about this now, you can still join. We are only on day 3! The challenge takes place in Evermuse’s subscriber chat, which is a paid tier perk. You can just head to the subscriber chat to get started and feel inspired.
Now, let’s talk whimsy.
Spring is finally here. Do you also want to open the windows, rearrange your bedroom, and become a slightly better version of yourself, or is it just me?
I think spring is the most whimsical season there is. With nature renewing itself, daisy petal games, the chance of finding a ladybug or a four-leaf clover while picnicking on the grass… it’s as if they all exist to add a little more whimsy to our lives.
And I already saw a ladybug, if anyone was wondering.
I am always looking for ways to bring more whimsy into my life, and I have a very good reason for this: Science backs this up. According to science, when we act a little more whimsically, we boost oxytocin, decrease cortisol, and create positive new pathways in our brain. Which is just a fancy way of saying that being more playful actively lowers stress and makes us happier.
So I thought of some ideas to bring more whimsy into our lives this spring. As always, if you come up with your own ideas, share them in the comments.
1-Write a letter to spring
Yes, an actual letter. Sit down with your favourite drink, open a window, and write to the season like it’s an old friend coming back to visit. What do you want from this spring? What are you ready to let go of? What are you excited about?
There’s something about writing things down that makes it feel real and a little magical at the same time.
2- Cook a new recipe that feels like spring
Think: something with fresh herbs, lemon, strawberries, asparagus… whatever makes you feel like you have spring on your plate. Find a recipe that excites you, buy the ingredients, and make an event out of cooking it. Invite your friends over, put your playlist on. Make it a whole thing.
3-Learn to arrange flowers
I am a true believer that having fresh flowers in your home instantly makes your day better. You can try joining a workshop, but don’t need to join one if you don’t want to. You could just buy a mixed bunch, come home, and arrange your flowers in a way that looks aesthetic to you.
4-Create a spring bucket list
Think about what you want to experience before summer arrives. I know painting paper fans with my friends, and going on a picnic just to play card games, is on my list.
5-Start a “Beautiful Things” photo album
Create a separate folder on your phone just for beautiful things you spot. A perfect cup of coffee. Sunlight through a curtain. You’ll start seeing beauty everywhere once you’re looking for it. Looking through the album on a grey day? Genuinely mood-lifting.
6-Find your neighbourhood’s best kept secret
Every neighbourhood has one… a tiny café tucked down a side street, a beautiful old building nobody looks up at, a market that only happens on Saturdays. Make it your mission this spring to find yours. Go exploring with no destination to see what you discover.
7-Eat breakfast outside at least once
Take your coffee and toast to the balcony, the garden, or a bench nearby. No phone, maybe a book. It sounds small because it is small, but this can change your mood for the rest of the day.
8-Make a spring mood board
Gather images, colours, textures, and words that capture the feeling you want this spring to have. Print them, tear them from magazines, pin them digitally… whatever feels fun. Hang it somewhere you’ll see it. It’s part vision board, part decoration, part permission slip to live beautifully. Here is my mood board for this spring.
9-Write yourself a note to open next spring
Seal it in an envelope, date it, and put it somewhere safe. Tell your future self what this spring felt like, what you were hoping for, what you were working on. Opening it twelve months from now will feel like time travel.
10-Host a tiny spring gathering
It doesn’t have to be a dinner party. A few friends, some snacks, flowers on the table, your spring playlist in the background. The bar is delightfully low; what matters is gathering people you love. Spring energy is best shared.
