Chic living is actually finding your favorites
Why chic living is less about buying and more about choosing
Hello friends,
I want to start by saying thank you to my first paid subscribers. It feels amazing that you chose to support me in this journey, and I can’t express how grateful I am. So thank you for being here. If you are wondering about when the digital magazine will be ready, it will be available to all of my paid subscribers on February 15. I am turning Cozy Life Inspiration Series into a digital magazine, so it is going to be full of ideas before welcoming spring.
Today I want to talk about chic living.
Chic living is often imagined as something you add to your life: shopping at fancy places, buying nicer clothes, and expensive things. But in real life, it is usually the other way around. It is not just adding more things or only adding things because of the brand.
It is finding and using things that bring joy to your life. And the price tags don’t matter as much as we think, as we can see from how many likes this note got; even a simple snack tin can help us live a chic lifestyle.
Because in the end, chic living is all about finding your favorites, making your life comfortable, and maybe thinking about the aesthetic along the way if you feel like it.
Here are some ideas on how I think we can live the chic lifestyle. Spoiler alert: I don’t think we should buy more.
Know your favorites: First things first. We need to know what we like to live the chic lifestyle. So take a moment to notice what you already love and reach for naturally. Your favorite mug, your most-worn sweater, the candle you always light, the snack you buy again and again. Chic living starts with awareness and turning your ordinary favorites into your signature.
Don’t save your favorites for “special days”: Use the nice plates any day you wish. Light the candle even if no one is coming over. Wear the outfit you love just to run errands. Your everyday life is a special occasion. Chic living is not waiting for permission to enjoy life.
Have less, but like what you own: You don’t need a lot, you need things that feel right. Instead of opening your wardrobe and saying, “I have nothing to wear,” imagine being able to think, “Which one of my favorite pieces should I choose today?” I truly believe that this doesn’t require more clothes, but fewer ones that we actually love wearing. And this applies not only to clothing, but to everything we own.
Treat yourself in small ways: This can look like buying yourself flowers, finding an old but beautiful cup at a flea market, and drinking your tea only from that one, or finally buying yourself that long-lasting, meaningful gift you’ve been saving for. What matters is allowing yourself to be spoiled sometimes, in ways that feel personal to you.
Choose your interests intentionally: When I think of chic living, I don’t only think about clothing or material things. Because “chic living” is a lifestyle that requires interests and hobbies. Our most authentic selves are also our most chic selves, so find your favorites: interests, hobbies, they should be bringing you joy to be chic.
Take care of your mind: Chic life is not only about what you own, but what you allow into your mind. Edit your inputs. Is spending the entire day bed-rotting and chasing cheap dopamine really more chic, or is it choosing books, articles, and long-form videos that genuinely interest us and nourish us instead? That’s why I think it’s just as important to find mental inputs that both feel good for our minds and align with our personal favorites.
What are your thoughts on this? I’d love to hear your ideas and recommendations, let’s meet in the comments. 🤍
